KEV ROBERTSON, CINEMATOGRAPHER

Kev Robertson was born and raised in a fishing town in the frozen north of Scotland.

He trained with the BBC in London as an assistant cameraman and then as a film cameraman in the documentary features division. His spare time was spent shooting art films and music videos. This diverse body of work included the film ‘Billy Tattoo’, described by the British Film Institute as “startlingly original.” A developing passion for narrative film prompted a move to California where his distinct photographic style quickly gained attention. His first feature film, ‘Quality of Life’, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival 2004, winning an Honorable Mention. It also won best youth film at Stockholm International and was released theatrically in the US in 2005. His second feature film ‘Black August’, is about the prison activist and writer George Jackson (‘Soledad Brother’) and stars Gary Dourdan of CSI. The film, narrated by Keifer Sutherland played theatrically and was broadcast on the Discovery Channel, attracting one of the biggest audiences in the channel’s history.
